My Prototec Results

Over the last couple of weeks Rimu class have been recording their Prototec (maths tests) results on a google drawing graph we have created. Prototec is site that lets us practise our Maths Basic Facts/Times Tables/Percentages etc. It has helped me along the way to achieve my Maths goal. An advantage of Prototec is you can choose the Maths stage you want to be tested at, and you can press 'mark' at the end and you can see how you got on straight away.

Here is a link to Prototec to try yourself: here.

It's not really hard, there's just some odd ones I get wrong. It's important to know these facts because we use them all the time.

Here’s mine hope you enjoy!

Digi-Awards

          Digi-Awards

At the start of this term we started making our Digi-Awards
Jack,Shukoor and I made a Digi-Award and we were in the movie making category and the topic is 'Be the Change.'
I really enjoyed filming it because it was hard geting the camera angels.
The challenging parts were getting the camera angels.
If I did it again I would take more time.

Hope you enjoy!  Here's the link:

Term 3 Timetable

Here is my Term 3 timetable. Here are my goals at the top. I will be following this all term. It changes sometimes depending on what we're doing and what my needs are. Green coloured boxes mean I've done a really good job - completed everything and been on task. Orange is kind of. Red not at all. This term I am looking forward to our 4th Outdoor Challenge in a few weeks which is a bush survival skills day. Enjoy!

Rimu Class WPCA Rock Climbing

For this post I was focusing on using different time connectives at the start of my paragraphs. I think it makes my writing better. What do you think?

On June the 20th the Year 7 and 8 students from Rimu class hitched a ride to Cattlestop Crag on the Port Hills to try another WPCA challenge and this time is will be ROCK CLIMBING and ABSEILING and I was buzzing!

When we got there we had to get a harness and a helmet and then we had to walk in and it was a great view.  It wasn’t a very long walk and then we met our instructors, Josh and Steven when we were walking. Eventually we had a chat about Pride and Resilience and we did that because they were the values we were focusing on that day. So we got climbing and I started off with the easiest one first.

Soon after, I finished that one so I waited for a bit and then we were off to the big one - the ABSEILING! I were feeling pretty nervous about ABSEILING because you go straight down a steep cliff and I was set to go! I had climbing shoes and a harness and Josh called my name and I was up to go ABSEILING. Yay this shall be fun! It was straight down a cliff - wow that was exhilarating!

Finally my group walked back to Base Camp, we started to pack up and  walk back to the cars. So we took the shorter route back to the cars and we headed back to school and luckily we got frozen cokes! That was our day ROCK CLIMBING!

Das Piano Reading Work

Over the last two weeks my reading group has been reading the ANZAC book called Das Piano and we had to make a slide showing what we learnt about the story. In my opinion I don't really like history but in saying that this book changed my mind on history and I sort of want to learn my about it now.

Is it true or false?

So in the second week of the holidays Shukoor thought it would be a good idea that I could take him fishing ‘And I replied and commented saying yes we could do that’. When are you free I said and ‘Shukoor replied and said tomorrow i’m free Tim’. So I thought that because there has been a lot on kahawia being caught at the waimakariri miver mouth it is where the salt water meets the fresh water from the river. And so I said in the morning we will meet and my house and get started then and get you a rod and reel to use. And at 7 o’clock in the morning standing at my door was Shukoor and I commented come inside you must be quite cold. ‘YES I AM thank you’.  Are you ready to go fishing because i’ve already got the gear ready jump into the car and we will head off. And 20 minutes later we arrived and I had pre rigged the rods and first cast for Dad, Shukoor, Max and I we all got kahawai!!
10 Cast later 10 fish later. And this happened all day so after maybe 70 fish each we had had enough.

Surfing

               Senses poem

On Monday 21st March the Year 7/8s from Rimu Class went surfing for the day at Sumner Beach as their first Outdoor Challenge for the William Pike Award. I expected it to be quite easy, but it harder than it looks! I found actually getting up on the board quite challenging, but once I practised a lot it became easier. I learnt that my classmates really like surfing! Everyone seemed pretty happy and keen to keep giving it a go. When I surf again I will remember the 'cat,..,...' movement and to keep my feet right down the bottom of the board when I start. It's important to be aware of other surfers too and not to cut into their wave.

I smell the sea air.
I Smell the salty air as I surfed the waves.
I smell the wet dog as I crashed into shore.
I Smell the salty air as I surfed the waves.

I touched the cool salty water when I fell of my board.
I touched the board as I made my way  up to stand up.
I touched the cool salty water when I fell of my board.
I touched the board as I made my way  up to stand up.

I  feel the seaweed running thru my feet.

I see the waves crashing.

William Pike Challenge Dinner

                                                  William Pike Challenge Dinner

On the 16th of march we all got started on our diner under 10 dollars. Issac,Cayde and I were in a group together. It was insane everyone started cooking like a rampaging bull. And after hard working hours cooking we finally finished our sushi we put it on the table of delicious food.

After the delicious food we went to the Wharehui to watch the 40 minute leg crushing presentation of the William Pike Challenge Award. It was mind blowing!

Overall it was a very good night i really liked Joe and Jesse’s banana cake. Over and out bye.

Wonder Point of view Writing

Our writing task for the last couple of weeks was to write a short essay. Explaining what point of view R.J Palacio used in the book “Wonder” overall I really liked the book “Wonder” and can’t wait to read more.

In the book ‘Wonder’, Palacio uses the first point of view to tell the story.
‘Wonder’ is a story about a boy who feels ordinary on the inside, but he is always reminded of how different he is by how people respond when they see him. This is R.J Palacio’s first novel and it is written in the first person.

Firstly I think It’s in first person because he says,
‘I know I’m not an ordinary 10 year old kid.’

Secondly I think It’s in first person because he says,
‘I’ve never been to a real school before.

Thirdly I think It’s in first person because he says,
‘I can’t say I didn’t always want to go to school’ because that wouldn’t be exactly true.’

Therefore In ‘Wonder’, Palacio uses the first person point of view to tell the story. The book ‘Wonder’ is written in first person.

Tim's Mihi

In the first 2 weeks of school, Rimu class learnt how to create and say our mihi in Māori. This is our introduction to our class and community. We Also created a visual mihimihi, Artwork accompany our speeches. Each individual mihi had 3 parts to it.

  1. A self portrait or a photo
  2. Places of significance to you
  3. Symbols of pictures that represent our culture.

Those of us who spoke clearly, confidently with excellent pronunciation with great visuals and layout scored as well on our rubric. Take a look at my finished mihi and tell us what you think about it.
